A new Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey of likely voters finds Obama with 42% support and Paul with 41% of the vote. Eleven percent (11%) prefer some other candidate, and six percent (6%) are undecided.
Ask the Political Class, though, and it’s a blowout. While 58% of Mainstream voters favor Paul, 95% of the Political Class vote for Obama.
But Republican voters also have decidedly mixed feelings about Paul, who has been an outspoken critic of the party establishment.
Sarah Palin, the former governor of Alaska and the GOP’s vice presidential nominee in 2008, is another Republican who has been bucking the party’s traditional leadership and was the keynote speaker at the recent Tea Party convention in Nashville. Fifty-nine percent (59%) of Republican voters say Palin shares the values of most GOP voters throughout the nation. Just 18% of Republicans see Palin as a divisive force within the GOP.
This will not win me any hoorays from Republican conservatives, but the best thing for the party would be to distance itself from Palin as quickly and as much as possible.
Palin may not be viewed as a divisive force within the GOP, but the GOP badly needs independents and Reagan Democrats to win. In that group, Palin most assuredly is a divisive force.
Palin is hugely responsible for the solid trashing McCain received in the last election. She is a hopeless speaker, completely devoid of any knowledge of foreign policy.
The future of the Republican party (both parties for that matter), is not war mongers who support Iraq and Afghanistan but the youth of America that wants to and needs to look beyond the needless travesties of Korea, Vietnam, Iraq, and Afghanistan.
Ron Paul has energized the youth of America and that is the future of the party. The country is begging for fiscal conservatives who are willing to always be fiscal conservatives (not just when it comes to social spending).
The US cannot afford to waste trillions of dollars keeping troops in 140 countries around the world.
It is high time the Republican party accept that simple statement of fact. Unfortunately, McCain could not do it, and Sarah Palin does not even understand the discussion!
Political Class Has Vested Interest In War
The reason "95% of the Political Class support Obama" over Ron Paul is the political class in both parties are mostly war mongers. Enough already!
Indeed, the military complex has a vested interest in perpetual war, much like unions has a vested interest in forever increasing benefits regardless of the consequences to the taxpayer. Note that wars on terror cannot possibly be won because it is impossible to win a war against a method - terror.
I am tired of the argument "weak on defense". Defense should be just that - defense - not military escapades costing $trillions in Iraq. We won the war. Great. The cost was insanely high. From the point of view of Bin Laden, we lost because we wasted a $trillion for no reason at all.
In Praise of a Balanced Budget Amendment
If we had a balanced budget amendment, we would see a change in a hurry. No Republican would dare support raising taxes to fund the insanities in Iraq and Afghanistan.
If Republicans truly want to lead, they will act as if there is a balanced budget amendment whether there is one or not, and stop this needless spending.
We do not need war, we cannot afford war, and most of all "We Can Do Better With Peace Than With War".
Support the troops. Bring them home now.
